Since their birth, MV Agusta have stood out for being exclusive, sporty and high-performance motorcycles. However, in the 1970s, an Italian tuner named Arturo Magni raised its prestige to almost legendary levels, creating even more exceptional versions of these machines, such as the iconic 1977 MV Agusta 750 S.
Magni was not unknown in the world of motorcycling: he was director of the MV Agusta competition team, the famous MV Reparto Corse, which achieved 270 Grand Prix victories and won 75 World Championships. His experience and technical vision laid the foundations for his legacy in transforming production motorcycles into true masterpieces.
Following MV Agusta's withdrawal from racing in 1976, Arturo and his sons founded Elaborazioni Preparazioni Magni (EPM) in Samarate, near Cascina Costa, the birthplace of MV Agusta. Its objective was simple but ambitious: to convert production motorcycles into unique, lighter and more powerful versions, always respecting the essence of the brand.
The first models to receive these transformations were the 750 cc and 788 cc MV Sport and MV America. The process required the owner to provide their standard motorcycle, and the Magni workshop was in charge of installing a complete kit of special parts. Each modification was intended to improve performance, aesthetics and the driving experience.
The heart of the transformation was a double steel cradle chassis that barely weighed 11 kg, accompanied by new fibers for the tank, side covers and tail, as well as a seat and rear fender. The Forcelle Italia fork and Brembo brake calipers provided stability and braking power at the highest level.
Other items included electronic ignition, 30 or 32mm PHF carburetors and a rectangular section double-arm swingarm. The final transmission was replaced by a chain, leaving behind the retention and pulling problems typical of the original cardan. The result: a much more agile, lighter and more precise motorcycle in every corner.
Depending on the level of preparation chosen, four matte black exhaust silencers and a rounded integral fairing were added, completing a transformation that made each MV Agusta Magni practically unrecognizable from its standard version. Driving improved noticeably, and the shift feel became smoother and more progressive.
These motorcycles received their own nickname: “Magni”. Although they started from an MV Agusta, the final set was a unique, sportier and more exclusive machine. The quality of the chassis and the precision of the modifications inspired Magni to launch his own brand of motorcycles in 1980, following the example of Bimota, Dunstall and Rickman.
Its first model was the MH1, a naked based on the Honda CB900F Bol D'Or engine, but with its own chassis that improved stability and manageability. At the same time, it presented the MHII, a sportier, lighter and more aggressive version, with a single-seat tail, half-handlebars, new fibers, Ceriani suspensions and Brembo brakes.
Magni didn't limit himself to Honda: over the years he also used engines from BMW, Suzuki and Moto Guzzi. In 2014 he returned to his roots with the Filo Rosso model, a circuit motorcycle inspired by Giacomo Agostini's three-cylinder competition bike, which incorporated the 800 cc engine from the MV Agusta Brutale, fusing tradition with modern innovation.
The MV Agusta 750 S transformed with Magni kit stands out for its removable double cradle chassis, high-performance Forcelle Italia fork, new fibers, seat, tailpiece and chain transmission. A dry clutch was even integrated for those looking for a deeper and more demanding level of preparation.
Recently, this model was auctioned in Las Vegas, at an event organized by Mecum, reaching a bid of $45,000. It is a highly appreciated collector's item for its rarity and historical value, a symbol of an era where passion and engineering combined to create unique motorcycles.
