The news fell like a bucket of cold water on the drivers and the public present on the grid: the race was reduced by 8 laps, being fixed at 23 laps. A modification that represented three quarters of its original duration, but enough to distribute all the points. The reason behind this drastic decision was not a request from Michelin due to fear for the durability of its tires, but the ”degradation of the track”. Race Direction had observed with concern how the asphalt was loosening in turns 11 and 12, and with a temperature of 51ºC, the situation became dangerous. Once again, the condition of the asphalt became the unexpected protagonist, just as it had happened on Saturday.
