The Catalan Sports Court extends the deadline to decide on the Pirinaica's claim before the Catalan Football Federation

The Catalan Sports Court (TCE) has decided to extend the resolution of the appeal presented by the Pirinaica for one more month. This request originates from the controversy surrounding the decision of the Catalan Football Federation (FCF), which granted the Santfeliuenc entity the vacancy left by Som Maresme in the Lliga Elit. The TCE justifies its delay by having to manage a “considerable volume of procedures” in progress, which has left the situation in suspense since the appeal came into its hands on February 10.

La Pirinaica, which ended its season third in Group 2, argues that it has the right to claim the vacant place in Lliga Elit, based on article 208 of the regulations, which establishes that the club with the best classification in the lower division must have priority. However, this guideline presents ambiguities that complicate its interpretation. Pirinaica maintains that, despite coming in third place, its points coefficient is higher than that of Santfeliuenc, which was second in group 3. With 59 points and a coefficient of 1.966, Pirinaica sees itself in a favorable position compared to Santfeliuenc's 54 points and coefficient of 1.8.

Manel Artero, president of the Pirinaica, has expressed his frustration at the prolongation of the process: “It is amazing. The TCE does not get wet. It seems that they want the current competition to end to see what happens.” His statement reflects the anxiety of a club that has fought hard to achieve a worthy position in Catalan football, and that now feels trapped in an administrative limbo that could change its future.

If the TCE finally ruled in favor of the Pirinaica, next season the Lliga Elit could have 19 teams. Although Pirinaica currently occupies fifth place in its group, it is unlikely that it will achieve direct promotion, which increases the urgency of this decision. Artero assures that his team has solid foundations to continue the fight: “If we have come this far it is because there is a foundation, at no time have they rejected the appeal. And we continue fighting because we demand that modest football, of which we are one of the greatest exponents, can have the option of reaching these positions. That we, the humble, be allowed to dream.”

The president of the Pirinaica has hinted that the decisions of the FCF may be influenced by interests beyond sports. “The main difference between them and us is that I am a taxi driver and the president of Santfeliuenc was previously the chief of staff of the presidency of the FCF,” said Artero. These types of statements open a debate about equity and transparency in the field of sport, especially in the lower categories, where opportunities are limited and competition is fierce.
